At the weekend I met this just-turned-one-year-old and her Mummy and Daddy. She came with a warning that she hadn't slept and had a bit of a cold, but she showed very little signs of either (until the very end of her studio shoot)! She threw some great expressions my way and here are some of my favourites:
I'm sticking to new principles regarding my wedding photography this season and only doing them when I come recommended or have a connection to the bride and groom. It's not a business decision, but a personal one! I want to reduce the number I book and enjoy every single one I shoot. And boy did I enjoy this one! The sun was shining (a little too much perhaps for such an outside venue), everyone was happy, lots got drunk, even more got eaten and I left the wedding party dancing the night away to one of the friendliest DJ's I've ever met! Richard and Yasemin's wedding photography highlights are below:
Who's been enjoying the early summer sun recently? I certainly have and I've been out shooting in it too! Although super busy with commercial work at StillVision Photography, I'm still shooting weddings and location family photography sessions such as this one...
I first met this gang at a family wedding 6 years ago and since, the bride and groom have added two new children to the mix! This time the occasion was a big birthday for Grandma and it was certainly a hot and sweaty one! Luckily it was also full of smiles...
I shot on location in a family garden on a sunny afternoon using a blend of natural light and one studio strobe.
Last year, my commercial business work split from my family, baby and wedding photography.
Today I've finished building a brand new website for StillVision Photography! It took some time and there was quite a steep Word Press learning curve, but I think I'm there. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it. Please take a look at www.stillvision.co.uk. And of course, if you need professional business images, please think of StillVision Photography. I'd be delighted to quote for you.
For a few weeks in February, I toured southern Malawi with Cambridge charity, Aquaid Lifeline Fund. While living in the rural areas, I shot this promotional film for the charity along with an accompanying series of portrait photographs. They form a body of work I'm incredibly proud of! Please take a moment to learn about the incredible things being achieved in what is one of the poorest countries on earth.
Here's a sneak preview from a studio session in the week, and it marks Mother's Day here in the UK. I hope everyone's having a lovely day and their babies/children are as smiley as this little one was!
Last week I met this smiling monster in the studio! He's the third sibling in a family I've photographed many times and by far the most smiley (although he smiled himself out in about 20 minutes). I'm already looking forward to photographing everybody together in a few month's time...
This morning I met this cheeky chappy! I've met him on two other occasions as he's been a part of my 'baby-grow club'. One-year-old Joseph is now up on his feet and moving around fairly confidently (although he's a much faster crawler still and still the preferred method of travel). He's also a surprisingly calm personality. And that's very refreshing as a toddler!
Last week I met this gang for a multi-generational post-Christmas portrait session. There was nervous laughter, awkward smiling, and just a bit of genuine fun. It had it all!
Yesterday I saw this pair in the portrait studio. I've met them both a number of times before and although the session was mainly about baby Percy, his big brother got involved too! I just about manged a shot of the two of them together but think 2 year old and baby; one goes one direction, one the other, one smiles, one looks the other way, one cries, that sort of thing! Here are a few studio highlights none the less:
Congratulations to Nick and Ilena who had a Christmas wedding on Friday 23rd December last year. Like most winter weddings, the weather was a feature of the day, but on this occasion, a storm was brewing! The challenge was working out exactly when storm Barbara would strike! She threaten me all afternoon, reducing my light, lifting the wind, bringing periods of sideways drizzle, but I was able to shoot all the important bits of the day outside! And Ilena is Russian so what's a bit of wind and cold anyway?! There was no stopping the new bride and groom from walking through Cambridge city for some 'Cambridge' looking portraits, albeit with hair in face (and a veil on it's way to France). It was a bit of a mad day full of happiness, weather, laughter, love and Christmas trees. I enjoyed every minute! My Cambridge wedding photography highlights follow:
I first photographed Callum as a newborn (it's amazing how time flies as he's now 5), but today's studio session was mainly about his baby brother Leo! Leo is a crawling, nearly walking, high-energy bundle of happiness who smiled so much in the first ten minutes that he'd run out of them by the end!
This afternoon's session was my first after the Christmas break and it looked more like a fashion shoot that a regular portrait session! I've photographed this cheeky pair a number of times before so it was nice to have some different looks/outfits to work with. I even persuaded Mum and Dad into a few this time!
Congratulations to Dan and Anna who were married on Saturday 10th December. Sandwiched between two sunny winter's days, the weather could have been better, but even though it threatened, the rain didn't arrive until later on! That meant I got to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Farnham Castle in Surrey. With dress hiked up, we walked the keep and got some great bride and groom shots against the castle walls. Family photos were shoe-horned in to make use of the fading light and once gone completely, it was all about fantastic food, lots of booze and a good old party! Here are my highlights (and see if you can spot my own cheeky little selfie):
This morning I photographed a family I first met back in 2010, back when Mum and Dad were expecting child number 1! Today I had three energetic children to shoot, ranging in age from 2-7. Suffice to say, it was good fun, hard work and fairly chaotic!
Here's a sneak preview from the weekend featuring eighteen month old Isaac. He came to the studio with Mummy & Daddy to shoot family shots, but just look at that amazing hair, how could I resit shooting baby portraits too?!
Those of you who know me know that I'm not exactly captain Christmas, but, I'm more than happy to show off a baby in Father Christmas outfit now that it's December! Well... just :) This studio session was with very nearly one year old baby Ember who was a little reluctant to show off her brand new standing skills!
How cute is this? A newborn baby having a dance-off with himself in his sleep! I never knew that babies could dance, but newborn Luke proved to me that they really can. A future gymnast/dancer/super-star DJ perhaps?
Today I met this little 9 month old who was a real action baby! He only enjoyed action things so that meant crawling, being thrown around by Dad, being tickled by Mummy and doing all the rattling of the rattles (rather than watching me do the rattling)! Suffice to say, we all needed a lie down....
Here's a sneak preview from a studio session last week involving baby Joe! He was full of expressions and swung from serious to smiley in the blink of an eye. At least he seemed to be enjoying himself some of the time...
